FHA Daily Hurricane Briefing
Today, at the request of the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the Florida Hospital Association held a special Disaster Recovery Briefing. Joining President Mayhew on the call was AHCA Secretary Simone Marstiller.
First, FHA is happy to report that water and power have been restored and water pressure is now available at all Lee Health facilities. Area hospitals however are still working on addressing staffing.
Secretary Marstiller and the team gave updates on the ESF-8 team and their work on contacting physicians to ensure their needs are met. A group of state employees from DOH, AHCA, and FDEM along with volunteers from FHA and various associations are handling patient transfers and making connections based on the needs of the mission. There have been 4,700 transferred so far. Secretary Marstiller also touched on addressing difficult delayed and discharged patients. The best way to escalate that request is to send that information to Secretary Marstiller and Deputy Secretary Kim Smoak. She asks that the hospitals give a sense of what steps have been taken already to address the challenge.
Additionally, acute staffing needs arise as hospital employees have been displaced. Staffing requests should be submitted to the Local Country Emergency Operations Centers, and they will be escalated to the state.
