Florida is facing a growing demand for health care services. Health care leaders, academic institutions and state leaders across the Sunshine State work together to address the state’s most pressing challenges and explore promising opportunities to improve access to world-class care for all Floridians.
This collaborative effort was on full display at Florida State University’s annual Business of Healthcare Summit held last Wednesday. Health care experts and hospital leaders from across the state convened to problem-solve barriers to care and discuss strategies to improve the Sunshine State’s health care delivery system.
The Summit brought together approximately 250 health care leaders, including FHA President and CEO Mary Mayhew, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital President and CEO Mark O’Bryant and Capital Health Plan CEO Sabin Bass. Mayhew, O’Bryant and Bass participated in a panel titled, The Florida Healthcare Horizon: Shaping the Future of Care.
Mayhew opened the panel, emphasizing the importance of continuous change to improve and strengthen health care in Florida.
“In our collective efforts to build a modern and sophisticated health care system, we need to continue embracing ingenuity, collaboration and partnerships,” said Mayhew. “In every facet of the system of care we have opportunities to look upstream, embrace disruption and make meaningful adjustments to improve access to timely, efficient and accessible care in Florida.”
The discussions focused on growing a strong health care workforce, the connection between health care and human wellness and happiness, as well as how Florida’s health care delivery system can more closely align its models of care to support the health care needs of Floridians today and in the future.
With an overarching emphasis on how disruptions transform the health care industry, the Summit also included panels on Revolutionizing Healthcare Delivery: Patient Centric Approaches for All, Capital Markets and the Future of Healthcare Financing and AI, Cybersecurity and Disruptive Technologies Transforming Healthcare.
The Summit underscored the vital importance of discussing the business of health care as Florida’s health care delivery system continues to evolve. Through these conversations, hospital and health care leaders glean valuable insights that help them deliver exceptional care to Florida’s 23 million residents. And all Floridians deserve the highest quality care.
