Statewide Call to Action to Reduce Maternal Deaths

 

Florida is seeing a significant increase in maternal deaths within 12 months of delivery.  Hospitals have a strong role to play in reducing the incidence of maternal death in Florida.  The FHA Board of Trustees has issued a Call to Action to Reduce Maternal Deaths in Florida encouraging all hospitals to review current activities to incorporate the five things which could prevent maternal mortality.

Five Steps

  1. Train Hospital EDs on Preventing Maternal Mortality
  2. Screen, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) all pregnant women
  3. Provide Naxolone kits prior to discharge for mothers screening positive for OUD
  4. Train and implement the Maternal Opioid Recovery Effort (MORE) folders (MORE | USF Health)
  5. Develop a plan of safe care, including referrals to Healthy Start and Early Steps
