Given the high percentage of births that are covered by Medicaid, and the extremely low Medicaid reimbursement that is far less than the cost of services, FHA proposes to increase the obstetric payment to hospitals
During the 2023 Legislative Session, in response to the critical need for robust support in pediatric healthcare, the state of Florida took significant steps to bolster funding for hospitals specializing in complex pediatric patients. This additional funding increased reimbursement for those pediatric services to address the significant resources to care for this vulnerable population.
Establish an incentive payment for the implementation of hospital-based care coordination teams to support more comprehensive team management of community health and social services for Medicaid patients who are super utilizers of emergency room services and inpatient services.
The Acute Care Hospital at Home program allows qualifying hospitals to provide services to certain patients at home that are similar to those provided inpatient, such as physician visits and monitoring, prescribing and administering drugs, nursing services, and diagnostics and imaging. Several Florida hospitals have been approved for HAH and are receiving Medicare reimbursement.
FHA supports these and other key provisions in Live Healthy aimed at improving health care outcomes, increasing the number of qualified providers, modernizing the health care experience, meeting community mental health needs, and saving taxpayer dollars by reducing preventable high-cost health care utilization. Live Healthy will continue to separate Florida as a destination for modern, sophisticated health care services.
