Maternal and Child Health

FHA is committed to strengthening maternal and child health by supporting hospitals, community partners and statewide efforts that improve care for mothers, babies and families. With one in five women experiencing a perinatal mental health or substance use disorder, expanding awareness, early intervention and access to support is critical before, during and after pregnancy. Through continued collaboration and prevention-focused strategies, hospitals can play a vital role in improving maternal health outcomes across Florida.

MATERNAL MORTALITY
Maternal and child health remains a critical priority in Florida. Through its Call to Action to Reduce Maternal Deaths in Florida, the FHA Board of Trustees is encouraging hospitals to review and strengthen current maternal health efforts, improve early identification of risks and connect mothers to timely support before, during and after pregnancy.
MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH
One in five women will experience a perinatal mental health or substance use disorder, yet many do not receive the treatment they need. FHA is committed to working with hospitals and community partners to strengthen maternal mental health care, raise awareness and ensure mothers have access to support before, during and after pregnancy.
