FHA Infographics: Holding Payers Accountable

Change Healthcare Cyberattack Impact on Florida’s Hospitals

Currently believed to be the most significant attack on the health care system in U.S. history, this cyberattack could result in hospitals struggling to finance their operation and provide services to their communities.

Holding Payers Accountable

Hospitals provide services, but it takes a long time to get paid. Denials are often a delay tactic by insurers - not because there was a problem with the care provided & claimed by the hospital.

  • Certain payer policies and administrative practices delay patient care, overburden clinicians, and withhold critical payments from providers.
  • Hospitals treat all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, and work with public or private payers to seek reimbursement for the services they provide.

White Bagging

White bagging is a policy in which insurance companies require drugs to be purchased through a specialty pharmacy of the insurer’s choice and then ship those drugs to the hospital or infusion center where the patient will receive treatment.

Prohibiting white bagging policies by insurance companies will reduce instances of delayed care, minimize drug waste, and ensure drugs are safely and effectively administered to the patient.
