Each year, FHA publishes a report highlighting the great work hospitals are doing to improve the health of their communities. Last year's report included examples of programs such as free CPR training, teaching children healthy lifestyle and eating habits and resources for those with lung diseases. Additionally, the report documented that hospitals gave back $3.6 billion to their communities through free or discounted care, training programs for health professionals, community health improvement initiatives and environmental improvements.
FHA staff are currently gathering data and program descriptions for the 2015 report now. Hospitals are encouraged to complete the 2015 Community Benefit Survey and submit brief summaries of organizational activities focused on addressing community needs. For questions on the survey or report, contact Kim Streit, vice president of healthcare research and information, at (407) 841-6230.
