CMS Conditionally Approves Florida Medicaid Waiver
On Feb. 20, the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) granted conditional approval of Florida's 1115 Medicaid Waiver, which would expand managed care statewide; and Governor Rick Scott announced his support for extending health care coverage to more than a million uninsured Floridians through the Medicaid program. Shortly thereafter, Senate President Don Gaetz and Speaker of the House Will Weatherford released statements reiterating that their Chambers are two thirds of the decision in Florida. The Speaker's statement makes it clear that there is still much work to be done before implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is assured in Florida. Both houses are scheduled to announce their recommendations on March 4.
