SOAP UP focuses on implementing appropriate hand hygiene strategies to reduce the spread of infection. By improving hand hygiene, a positive impact will be made on reducing patient harm in seven areas: catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI), central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), clostridium difficile infection (CDI), multi-drug resistant organisms (MDRO), sepsis, surgical site infection (SSI) and ventilator-associated events (VAE).
FHA will focus on SOAP UP October - December 2017.
Through the acronym, hospital staff will be able to remember to:
S - SCRUB: for 20 seconds with the right product
O - OWN: your role in preventing HAIs (hospital acquired infections)
A - ADDRESS: immediately intervene if breach is observed
P - PLACE: hand hygiene products in strategic locations
U - UPDATE: hand hygiene products policies as needed to promote adherence
P - PROTECT: involve patients and families in hand hygiene
