Overview
The Florida Hospital Association (FHA) is pleased to be offering again the Infection Prevention (IP) Virtual Training Series for novice infection preventionists for Florida's hospitals and systems. This virtual IP training is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and core competencies that will support the success, professional development and practice of the novice infection preventionist. This FREE educational series is scheduled for April 12-15, April 20 and April 22, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT daily via Zoom.

If you are new to the IP role and responsible for the implementation of infection prevention programs that drive sustainable reduction in harm related to hospital-associated infections, this is a perfect educational and networking opportunity! The six-day IP training series will be led by nationally recognized infection prevention experts Linda Greene, RN, MPS, CIC, FAPIC; and Barbara Russell, RN, MPH, CIC, FAPIC. The virtual series will begin with discussion on the importance of the IP role during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be followed by an overview of the role and competencies of the infection preventionist, the elements of an effective infection prevention program, surveillance and reporting, antibiotic stewardship, regulatory and accreditation compliance and the importance of building relationships with multi-disciplinary teams.

Objectives

Discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
Understand the role of the infection preventionist and the elements of an infection prevention program
Know requirements for accreditation and regulatory compliance
Review best practice strategies for the prevention of hospital-associated infections
Understand required cleaning, disinfection and sterilization practices in surgery and endoscopy
Discuss the importance of antibiotic stewardship programs
Take action to build and strengthen relationships with multi-disciplinary teams

Suggested Audience
The program is designed to focus on fundamental knowledge and core competencies for current infection preventionists who are new to their role (less than 2 years in their role) or those interested in learning more about the role of infection prevention in the acute care setting.

Continuing Education
FHA is a provider of nursing education approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing under Provider No. NCE2972. Nurses are eligible to receive 12.0 hours of continuing nursing education for attending all six sessions.
