House Health Innovation Committee Approves Trauma Center Bill
The House Health Innovation Committee met this week and voted to approve Proposed Committee Bill (PCB) HIS 14-01 relating to trauma centers. The bill would allow trauma centers currently operating in Manatee, Pasco and Marion counties to remain open. Bill provisions were heavily debated before passing on an 8-4 vote. There were concerns raised that the bill, as drafted, could have been interpreted to allow past and future trauma centers that are not operating as of the effective date of the bill to receive automatic approval. Chair Jason Brodeur (R-Sanford) acknowledged the concerns of the committee and committed to addressing them in the next committee hearing. The Committee Bill has been filed as House Bill 7113. A similar bill in the Senate - Senate Bill 1276 by Senator Denise Grimsley (R-Sebring) - has been referred to the Health Policy and Appropriations Committees for consideration.
