CMS to Issue Rulemaking on EHR Incentive Payments

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced plans to engage in rulemaking this spring to make the Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs less burdensome for providers. CMS has indicated that it is considering proposals to shorten the 2015 reporting period to 90 days rather than the one year that is required under current regulations, realign hospital reporting periods to the calendar year, and to modify other components of the meaningful use program to reduce its complexity and lessen the reporting requirements.
